I can’t believe it is already Friday!
This week has flown by.
Isn’t it amazing how much time people spend waiting for the week to end and the weekend to begin?
I don’t want to be one of those people.
I believe working is a gift from God. Scripture talks about how God made us to work and to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
As I think about going to the Czech Republic, I don’t want to just live for the two weeks we are going there.
I want us to enjoy the preparation, the time we are there and the time we are home.
I don’t want to view the trip like the weekend – where we spend so much time looking forward to it, that we forget to enjoy the process of God refining us and preparing us for the trip. The work he is doing now in our hearts is going to shape us for the future.
As Danielle and I have mentioned, this trip isn’t just a short little trip in our minds, we believe it’s the beginning of something more God is doing in our lives.

Daily CZECH Up-Preparation
Last night I was out with one of my good friends. She asked me if we were ready for our trip.
I quickly said "Yes! We are so excited!" Then I realized. No, I am not ready at all. In fact I have had very little time or energy to think about it.
In my mind we have so much to do. Get a backpack for me. Get some clothes that will help. Start walking every day so we can be in shape for the trip. Get cat sitters figured out. And the list goes on.
But as Ryan talked about in a previous post, it's more important for us to be preparing our hearts for what the Lord is doing.
And I have failed. I keep getting caught up in all the other craziness in our life, that I forget to just slow down, and really allow the Lord to be working on my heart. To ready me for the work he is going to do this summer.
Time to put the lists aside, and get on my knees! Because more than good walking shoes, I need to be prepared spiritually for this trip.

Daily CZECH-Up-Preparing our Hearts
We hope you had a good weekend. We had a great and busy weekend filled with family and friends!
Friday Night, my Mom came and stayed with us. We had a great time with her.
Saturday morning, we talked and talked and talked. You know, the older I get – the more I appreciate the Mother I have.
My sister brought our niece and nephew over. They are such great kids and such a joy to be around.
Saturday afternoon, Danielle and I had the privilege of watching our friends’ children. As mentioned below, our friend Jeff graduated from Pharmacy School Saturday.
We watched his one-year-old and Jeff’s nephew who is also just over a year old. We had a good time playing with them outside in between the frequent rain.
On Saturday evening, Danielle and I hosted Jeff’s mother-in-law. What a treat!
We stayed up late talking to her. I love hearing testimonies of God’s faithfulness. She has a great testimony and continues to let God refine her. She reminded me about our “great provider” and how he is always working on our behalf. Linda is so honest and so genuine. What a blessing to have her in our lives.
Sunday morning, we stayed home from church since we had company. Danielle spent several hours making cupcakes and a cake for Jeff’s graduation party. I am so proud of my wife and how she is really using her baking skills for Christ. She is always looking for ways to bless people with her baking, including me! What a great gift God has blessed her with. Sunday afternoon, we had the graduation party for Jeff. This was a great celebration of family and friends. His wife Katherine, was very intentional about giving God the praise for his accomplishments.
We’re thankful for them both and how they have stayed true to the Lord through years of a grueling schedule. We are looking forward to seeing what God does in their lives in the coming months and years.
Sunday night, Danielle and I got home and relaxed for the remainder of the weekend.
Throughout the weekend, Danielle and I brainstormed about our future and about what God is doing.
One thing that kept coming up is how we often limit what God is doing in our lives.
Something Danielle and I are really working on is submitting our fears and concerns to Christ and letting him truly control our lives!
We both like to be in control of things which makes it hard surrendering that control to God.
I am amazed at how few people in the Czech Republic claim Christ. As Danielle and I were talking, we kept coming back to the idea of what it would be like if we as believers got out of the way and let God move through us and reach our world for Christ. It’s possible! We want to be vessels for Christ. We want people to see Christ in us.
This is one way we are preparing for our two weeks in country and then several years here at home.
We aren’t looking at this trip as an adventure that will have a beginning and an ending. We are viewing it as a trip that has a beginning and we hope it will stir things up in our hearts that will last a lifetime.
There’s a lot I don’t know about our future, but one thing I do know is that we are a work in progress. I am excited to see what God is going to do in the coming weeks, months and years.

Congratulations...DOCTOR
So, today our good friend Jeff is graduating from Pharmacy School. Did I mention with his PHD? No, I didn't. Yeah he is getting his PHD. He will now be Dr. Jeffrey Wiedemann. We are so very very proud of our friend. Minor Correction: Jeff got his PharmD. Docotorate in Pharmacy. Sorry for the PHD confusion.
It's been so fun to watch the whole process. From applying, getting in, getting his white coat, studying, studying, studying, his residency, and now this exciting day!
Jeff, we are so proud of you! Congratulations on this huge accomplishment!

Daily Czech-up – Prayer Requests
It’s Friday and another week has already come and gone.
Our prayer is that we won’t waste each day the Lord gives us.
We are frequently reminded that each day is precious and provides opportunity.
We ask that you pray with us for the missionaries currently serving in the Czech Republic.
We pray that they will take each day and each opportunity seriously and that their days won’t be wasted.
We pray for strength for them. That they would be able to standup against the opposition they face.
We also pray for protection for them. That God would protect their marriages and their lives.
It is so awesome to know that we our Father is our Savior and we pray this message will get out to those around the world and in our own communities.

Daily CZECH-Up-Prayer Need
Last night as Ryan and I were praying for our trip...we both realized that we are exhausted.
Ryan's schedule has been a bit crazier than usual, and that of course means less sleep for both of us.
So, today for our Daily CZECH-Up I am asking for your prayers. Please pray for energy for us. Not just today, but for the trip.
We need prayers as we are preparing for our trip. We need energy as we prepare emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.
We need prayers as we go and the time change and the schedule of camp requires much of us.

Daily CZECH-Up-Religion
Daily CZECH-up
Monday-Friday, we will be posting something about the Czech Republic, our trip preparations and how God is preparing us.
Here is some information about the Czech people and their view of religion.
According to the 2001 Census, 59% of the country is agnostic, atheist or non-believing.
Nearly 27% are Roman Catholic and 2 percent are protestant.
The fastest growing religion group are those who claim to have "no relgion."
This group of people increased 19% during the last census.
In 2005, a poll finds just over 19% of people there believe there is a God.
We hope you'll join us in praying that God will soften the hearts of people in the Czech Republic and that the Christian church will grow.

Czech Republic here we come!
When Ryan and I went on our first date, he asked me to be his date to a wedding. The wedding of Kim and Daniel. I happened to know both of them from college, and Ryan was friends with Kim through church. Little did I know, that going to that wedding would be the start of something so much bigger than ourselves.
Daniel and Kim quickly became good friends of ours. And we knew it was the Lord when they asked us to support them as they joined Josiah Venture and moved to the Czech to do youth ministry.
We also knew that supporting our missionary friends would stir in us a desire to go and see their ministry. We just had no idea when and how that would happen. We had talked several times about going to the Czech to see the ministry Kim and Daniel were doing but didn't know if or when that might happen.
Enter Dennis. Kim's Dad. We were at lunch with him and his wife ZoeAnne (who we have adopted as our Portland Parents). Dennis asked us if we would consider going to the Czech this summer to help at an English Camp. I quickly said yes, and Ryan asked for more details. After praying, talking, and requesting time off at work for the 2 week journey, we called Dennis and said "YES!". We are thrilled to get to go and work with Daniel and Kim. We get to be hands on with the ministry that we pray for, and support! We couldn't be more thrilled or excited about this trip.
We are going to try and post daily on our blog about our preparations for the trip, as well as facts and fun things we learn about the Czech Republic! We don't know what internet will be like once we are over there, but we are hoping to keep updating the blog as we go along.

It’s been a year and a half since we got married and in this short amount of time, we have learned so much about ourselves and about the Lord. However, there has been one “constant” in our life that remains true today. Life is about God’s plan, not ours.
With that in mind, God has led us to another decision we probably would not have made. We are going to The Czech Republic to teach English this summer. We were at lunch with a dear couple from our church and they asked us to consider going to the country and teaching English to people there. We both had mixed reactions including fear and excitement as we talked about this opportunity. We did what we know to do and that’s to pray and seek wisdom from others. Through that process, God made it clear to us that now is the time to go.
So that brings us to today. Trusting the Lord in a new and different way and believing more than ever that he is our provider. We are going to partner with a couple, Daniel and Kim Johnson who are missionaries in the city of Orlova. This is very special to us. Before we were married, we made the decision that we would always sponsor a missionary and through prayer, God brought this couple into our lives. In addition to being missionaries we support, they are also great friends of ours. It has also been a desire for us to visit the missionaries we support and see the work that they are doing. We didn’t expect God to fulfill that desire this summer, but he is doing that and we praise him for it.
We along with six or seven others who have also been asked by our church to do this are leaving for the Czech Republic on July 12th. We will be returning home July 26th. We will partner with Kim and Daniel and the youth group that they lead. We will be teaching English to other believers and then put on an English camp for both believers and non-believers while we are there. But that’s not all! Our work continues when we leave the country because we will stay in contact with many of those we meet and continue to connect with them over email as they continue to work on their language skills. English is so important to people living in the Czech Republic because it’s a way they can connect with the outside world which is important to them so they can be successful. Through this process, we are looking forward to bringing hope to many people there who don’t have it – and that hope comes from Christ.
We are hoping you will partner with us. We are asking that you pray that God will prepare us to meet the people he wants us to meet with and connect with those he wants us to connect with. We ask that you pray we would be an encouragement to the people we serve including Daniel and Kim. We are praying that God will give us the ability to love on these people and open up doors so that they are open to the gospel.
Finally, we are asking that God would provide the necessary funds for us to go. The trip costs about $5,000 for the two of us. Airfare costs about $1400 each and our costs for room and board are just over $1000.

Question #1: Where are you going?
We are going to a camp in Malenovice. That’s in the eastern part of the country.
Question #2: Why go to the Czech Republic and why now?
The answer to both is simple: We feel this is what God has called us to do at this time in our lives. We seek God’s direction in all areas of our lives and have prayed he would stretch us – and we believe this is one way he is choosing to do so.
Question #3: Do you know anything about The Czech Republic?
We are learning! Since everything came about pretty quick, we are quickly trying to learn about the history of the country, the people, who they are and what matters do them.
Question #4: What exactly are you going to be doing there?
As soon as we arrive, we will be assigned to a student who can translate for us. We will be building relationships with this individual as well as many others. We will then be teaching at an English camp and helping the students with everyday conversation. We will also lead and join in various activities with the students while we are there. In addition to this, we will also have opportunities to share about Christ in front of the students and individually.
Question #5: Have you guys thought about doing missions long-term?
It has been something we talk about and something we pray about. Right now, we feel called to this trip. Anything beyond that is far out of our control and we don’t feel God has shown us what that could be – but we won’t rule anything out until he closes those doors.
Question #5: Are you staying in Luxury hotels?
That’s funny! We’ll be staying in a camp setting. We’ll let you know what that looks like once we get back!
The most important question: How specifically can I pray for you two?
1. We are praying God would be at work right now in the Czech Republic and moving students to attend this camp
2. Pray that God would prepare our hearts for this trip. Pray that he would give us discernment about what to say and what not to say while we are there.
3. Pray that God would help us raise the needed funds for this trip.
4. Pray that God would protect the students hearts while we are there
5. Pray that the message of Christ and the hope that Jesus offers will become something people in this unchurched country will desire and see.
6. Pray for safety as we travel

Sunshine Sunshine Sunshine
It has been wonderful having some sunshine! I used to not care about sunny weather as I do now. In fact, I keep telling Ryan we need to move where it's sunny...a lot more than here. Maybe not too hot, but sunny.
We have been taking advantage of this rare sunny streak. Last Saturday we got to play with our niece, outside! I had only wished there was a play ground for her...and her Auntie! :)
Last night was great. We set up the new charcoal grill Ryan got for Christmas (Thanks Dave and Judy). Made some yummy hamburgers and opened a great bottle of Malbec. We sat outside for a couple of hours just enjoying the weather. And our baby birds. There is a nest of baby birds on our patio. We were going to have our apartment remove the nest, but I was afraid that there were babies in it. Sure enough. Last night we watched the mama bird fly into the nest several times, and if we didn't see it, we would have heard it. The babies go nuts! It's so fun. Meow, normally loves watching the birds and hearing them. But when the babies go crazy, he hides! It's so funny...anyways.
We can't wait for more BBQ's and sunny days. I am glad that summer is approaching!
We have been taking advantage of this rare sunny streak. Last Saturday we got to play with our niece, outside! I had only wished there was a play ground for her...and her Auntie! :)
Last night was great. We set up the new charcoal grill Ryan got for Christmas (Thanks Dave and Judy). Made some yummy hamburgers and opened a great bottle of Malbec. We sat outside for a couple of hours just enjoying the weather. And our baby birds. There is a nest of baby birds on our patio. We were going to have our apartment remove the nest, but I was afraid that there were babies in it. Sure enough. Last night we watched the mama bird fly into the nest several times, and if we didn't see it, we would have heard it. The babies go nuts! It's so fun.
